🔁 I stopped trying to sleep. I’m learning how to end my days again.
I remember when “sleeping well” consumed me.
Tracking apps, glasses, supplements, meditation—
I tried it all.
Sometimes, it worked.
But mostly, they failed.
Because I wasn’t resting,
I was striving for perfect rest.
And somewhere in that striving,
I forgot how to simply let my day be done.

📉 I made sleep into another task.
Sleep turned into a checklist:
“Early wind-down?”
“No caffeine after noon?”
“Sleep score above 85%?”
I treated sleep like it owed me something.
But sleep doesn’t respond to effort.
It responds to release.
And I didn’t know how to do that.
“I wasn’t just tired.
I was all twisted up.”

🪟 More than sleep, I needed help ending the day.
It’s a skill we’re rarely taught.
We learn to begin with vigor,
to strategize, to push, to complete.
But who guides us in gently letting a day go?
Scrolling isn’t closure; it’s avoidance.
Exhaustion isn’t rest; it’s depletion.
Caffeine wanes; discipline falters.
What my soul craved wasn’t just quiet.
It was a way to tell myself,
“That’s enough.”

🕯️ And so, a gentle closing ritual was born.
Nothing fancy.
No candles, incense, or apps.
Just three steps:
- Dim the overhead light.
- Write a single line in a small journal.
- Rest in quiet for 30 seconds.
That’s it.
Yet, in those 90 seconds,
I felt more present than all day long.
Not present like I was performing.
Present like… I remembered
I exist.

✍️ My one-line log isn’t deep. But it’s real.
I’m not a poet.
I don’t try to analyze everything.
I just notice, and I write.
Here’s what I’ve written:
“Mind cloudy. Heart clear.”
“List unfinished. But I showed up.”
“Not tired, but no longer fighting.”
“This line is enough for now.”
One line.
One breath.
A way to say:
“I was here today.
And now, I’m done.”

🌾 True rest isn’t just sleep, it’s journey.
Sometimes, I still sleep late.
Sometimes, I still overthink.
Sometimes, I don’t write anything.
But since I began ending my days—
with gentleness—
my sleep isn’t a battle anymore.
It feels like… permission.
Permission to close this chapter.
To come back to myself.
To let go of unfinished tasks.
And to rest, regardless.

🌙 Ready for a soft ending tonight?
Don’t strive for “better sleep.”
Just allow yourself a gentle ending.
Write one line.
Don’t overthink it.
Don’t judge it.
Just let it be.
